I’m Matthew Sampson – A Call to Action

I spent 635 days on the front lines with a rifle in my hands, fighting beside the defenders of Ukraine through mud, blood, and the kind of exhaustion that grinds into your bones. When I finally set that rifle down, the fight didn’t end. It transformed. After four trips to Ukraine and a total of 737 days on the ground, my mission is sharper than ever.

I fight with my voice now, because the world is burning and too many people still insist it’s only a warm glow in the distance. People tell me to stop provoking Putin. They say America should stay quiet, stay small, stay safe. But silence is how nations die. And after everything I’ve witnessed, after seeing Russia bomb homes, maternity wards, and kindergartens, after watching Russian combat drones violate Polish airspace, after seeing political tensions inside the United States escalate into actual assassinations, I’m not about to sit down, shut up, or “be polite.” We’re long past polite. We’re in survival mode.

Some in the pro-Ukraine community want me out of the way. A few openly call for my death. One American veteran even told me I didn’t have their “permission” to return to Ukraine. That kind of ego-driven tyranny doesn’t slow me down for a second. I don’t take orders from people who fear purpose. I go where the mission requires. For the first time in too many months, I’m no longer homeless. No longer sleeping in a vehicle between meetings, flights, and warzones. I’m rebuilding in Scottsdale, recalibrating, preparing for what comes next. But don’t confuse that with stepping back. I’m here to break the comfort bubbles Americans live inside and to warn them while I continue fighting for them: the war overseas doesn’t stay overseas when we keep pretending it won’t reach us.

For over two decades, my life has revolved around service. More than 3,000 days spent in warzones. I served as a U.S. Marine Corps Scout Sniper in Iraq and Afghanistan. I worked thousands of days in Iraq as a contractor. I served in environments most people wouldn’t walk into even once. But no mission reshaped me more than the one that began in 2022, when Russia launched its full-scale invasion and tried to erase freedom from the map. Their genocide isn’t new—it’s older than any of us. I answered that call because tyranny doesn’t respect borders. It spreads. If Ukraine falls, Europe is next. After Europe comes the United States. Every day I spent in Ukraine made that truth sharper. I fought alongside farmers, teachers, mechanics, and nineteen-year-olds who should be planning college, not burial options. I stood in trenches that haven’t changed since World War I. I walked through Bakhmut when it was nothing but bones of buildings, bones of bodies, smoke, and memory. I watched civilians cling to life while Russia targeted cities, power grids, hospitals, and children. Russia’s goal isn’t victory. It’s erasure. And through all of this, American volunteers have stepped up with heart and grit but without the support needed to match the threat.

We piece together gear from NGOs and donors, but what’s needed is sustained, serious backing from the U.S., our allies, and most importantly you. This isn’t charity. It’s strategy. It’s defense. It’s the only way to stop a tyrant who grows bolder every time he’s ignored. Now I’m back on American soil, meeting with lawmakers, leaders, advocates, journalists, and anyone with influence to shift policy. Some understand. Some pretend to. Some accuse me of exaggeration. But I’ve lived this war longer than many politicians have held office. I’m not here for attention. I’m here because the United States is not ready for what’s coming if Russia continues unchecked. I’m here because my homeland isn’t immune from war. None of us are. This mission takes resources. Travel. Meetings. Advocacy. Food. Time. And I cannot carry it alone. If you believe in this fight, if you understand what’s at stake, I’m asking for your support. Donations fuel the mission. Conversations open doors that money cannot. You have my contact information. Use it. Share it. Encourage it. Stand with me. Stand with freedom. Stand for the world we’re trying to save before time runs out

I Hate a Bully, And I Won’t Back Down

I’ve always believed in standing up to bullies. It’s a principle I’ve carried with me through every battlefield, and it’s what led me to Ukraine.

For over 600 days, I fought shoulder to shoulder with Ukrainian defenders—ordinary people thrust into an extraordinary hell. Farmers, teachers, fathers, daughters—forced to become warriors in a war they never asked for. I’ve seen children who should be laughing in schoolyards instead trembling in basements, praying the next missile doesn’t find their home.

I’ve fought in the trenches—cold, wet, rat-infested trenches that haven’t changed much since World War I. I’ve battled through the ruins of Bakhmut, a city that once held over 70,000 people—now reduced to rubble and ash. The place is unrecognizable. There’s no city left—just bones of buildings and memories scorched into the earth.

This war isn’t just about territory. It’s about erasure. Russia isn’t trying to win hearts and minds—they’re trying to wipe an entire identity off the map. Their language, their culture, their spirit—everything the Ukrainian people hold sacred is under assault. And yet, they fight. With resolve. With grit. With a kind of courage that can’t be broken.

I’m not alone in this fight. What many Americans don’t realize is the number of U.S. volunteers who have answered the call to stand beside the Ukrainian people. We are out there, putting our lives on the line, but we don’t have the resources we need to be as effective as we could be. Through the help of NGOs and generous donors, we’ve been outfitting ourselves, but what we really need is a full-scale, committed effort from the U.S. and the global community.

We need proper equipment. We need advanced training. We need the financial backing to make sure that our teams are equipped to meet the enemy head-on, in the most brutal and unforgiving conditions. This fight is not just for Ukraine—it’s for the values we hold dear. And to win, we need you, the American people, to demand that your elected officials step up, increase support, and ensure that we have what it takes to make a real difference on the frontlines.

Support the Cause – Your Help Matters

I’m now back in the U.S., working to share my experiences with lawmakers, advocates, and citizens. Along this journey, I’ve been lucky enough to meet so many Americans who believe in what I’m doing, and their support has been nothing short of inspiring.

But there’s more work to be done, and I need your help. It takes resources—time, energy, and yes, money—to connect with the people who can make a difference. If you believe in this cause, if you’ve been moved by the fight for freedom and justice, please consider contributing. Every donation helps me travel to key locations, meet the people who can push change, and continue to amplify the voices of those fighting for their lives in Ukraine.

I’m asking you to help fuel this mission—whether it’s a small donation or a connection to someone who can make a difference. Your support will make a real impact on the ground.
